Installing A Tele Cup Jack (for The First Time)

Hi -

Im trying to install a Tele cup jack (for the first time), the one with the bent square piece with sharp corners.

I 'd like to do this without making or buying the "special tool" if possible.

A diagram would be great. Does the bent square piece angle away from the control plate to bite into the wood inside the jack cavity?

Mine doesn't seem to fit in the hole....

ive never found them any good, the guitar lead always seems to pull them out so i use electrosocket ones that fix in with 2 screws, if you cannot get the claw to grip the wood (not big enough) maybe that would be the best bet
