What would the dimensions be for neck blank for a les paul?????? Hmmm.. Been around here for a while. Do your home work , get ahold of plans or make plans, study up on wood. If you can't answer the questions you have asked you are not ready to build a neck , anyone who feeds you these bits of information is not doing you a favor . Quote
PunkRockerLuke Posted July 21, 2007 Author Report Posted July 21, 2007 Rick500 is helping me with the plans. I just want to know if using a cut down 2X4 for a set neck is plausible. Quote
rhoads56 Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 Sure it is, but is that what you WANT? Quote
Rick500 Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 If you wanted to practice on something, it wouldn't be a bad idea to do it with something inexpensive like a 2x4, but assuming you're talking about a 2x4 you get a Home Depot or similar, that's going to be pine, which is not suitable for a guitar neck. It's much too soft. You need some sort of suitable hardwood: mahogany and hard maple are the most common. You'll have to take a look at the plans to see what the minimum dimensions of the blank will have to be. Quote
PunkRockerLuke Posted July 21, 2007 Author Report Posted July 21, 2007 I don't think the locally owned and operated hardware store has pine 2X4s but I'll have to check. I might as well go with maple since it's one of the plentiful types of tree here in Iowa. Sugar Maple makes some damn good syrup too. Quote
