Off He Goes
I was just wondering how you know which lug on a volume or tone pot does what. Theres three, but I'm not sure which one does what.
Rick500
The middle one is the wiper; it's the "signal out." One of the outer terminals is grounded, the other one is "signal in."
rubber314chicken
the value of a post is the resistance between the outer two lugs. the inner lug is connected to a sweeper, which when turned, changes the resistance between it and the two outer lugs, controlling how much of the signal goes to each. all the way clockwise tuning (position 10 on a knob) will result in the middle lug directly contacting the left lug of the pot (remember schematics show posts from the bottom, and I am talking about them like that), and putting the knob all the way to 0 connects the middle and the right lugs. I hope this makes sense.
