Paper Snowman Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 In the future, I'd like to put together a fretless guitar. I can't seem to find any fretless necks for sale, so I was wondering if it would be plausible to buy a neck from, say, Warmoth with no frets. It would still have the fret slots, so they'd have to be filled. What could they be filled with, and how? Quote
Jon Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 I personally think wood veneers look the best over other fillers for fret slots. Maple would be a good contrast for darker colored fingerboards. Wenge would be a good contrast for lighter colored fingerboards. Quote
the telecaster kid Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 Yeah, that's exactly what I'm doing with the bass I'm making. I got a stewmac slotted rosewood fretboard, and I'm going to put maple veneers in the slots. I think it'll look good. Quote
WezV Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 veneer is definately better than using any kind of filler You can do what skelf does (and i copied) which is use a veneer thats almost the same colour as the fretboard so you can see the lines but an audience cant!! Quote
Jonathon Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 I think it would be awesome, as I think other have said, to have a different wood where the frets would be, but flat to the board so you have fret markers but get the fretless sound. I don't mean, though, that you need the fret markers, more that it would be cool, especially when others see it up close. Quote
