vikingblood
Hi I am making my first guitar and I am confident that I can pull it off. But is there a special way to carve a top. i.e. Les Paul
Mattia
Use the search. Seriously. It's been covered again and again and again and again, there are even a few pinned topics with carved tops in there. Short answer: angle grinder with a flap disk and some scrapers are your friends. Long answer: search.
SwedishLuthier
A more traditional choise of tool: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Planes/Sloane_Planes.html I use both finger and palm planes. With a sharp blade, even figured maple is reasonably easy to deal with. But the angle grinder is perfectly alright too.
Mattia
As an addendum: I do use finger planes (don't have a palm plane), but frankly, I don't like the blisters that much. Perfect for refining the shape and creating the right recurves, though.
