there is a seller on ebay that is selling this often in 2" thick pieces and really wide, that would be perfect for bodies. but on all the sites i usually get wood info from dont dont have it and dont recognize it. one site i found somethings on it, but i want to know how heavey it is. anyone know? see it here

Didn't recognise the name right off the bat, but a quick web search and bingo. Santos Mahogany(this I am familiar with). Heavy, very hard, and it has a color similar to a dark Mahogany. I would say for a solid body weight will be a big consideration (maybe some chambering or weight loss would be in order). I have run across several nice resonant pieces that interested me for acoustic backs and sides.

Think of it somewhat like Jatoba(Brazilian Cherry).

wow, thanks. i had no idea that it was santos mahogany. and your right, it is extremly heavey, exactly as heavy as jatoba from the sites i refer to. thanks a lot
