jsnhavoc Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 I have an exporer that I want to put an 81/85 set into. Two volumes and one tone control. Can I use one of the Kerry King or Zakk Wylde sets or do I have to buy parts separately? If I buy the separate parts what would I need and where would I get the correct diagram? Thanks, AJC Quote
crafty Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 You can purchase either the KFK or ZW sets, or just the pickups individually. Any way you do it the pickups will come with EVERYTHING you need to make it work, including pots, caps, output jack, and wiring diagrams. Quote
metallisomething Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 I actually did exactly what you're talking about, only with a build from scratch. The set has specific diagrams to replace the electronics on a few specific guitars I think only les pauls though. As well as diagrams that are general. They make it pretty easy to do, and the zakk wylde set (which is what I got) are screaming hot. If you're into playing metal, this set rules. And the 85 on the neck sounds pretty good clean too. I'm sure the kerry king set is just as nice. One thing I didn't understand was that they tell you to NOT attatch a ground wire because the pickups are internally grounded. Can someone explain that to me? Because I get a lot of buzz. I'm going to re solder the connections and get some shielding tape, but what about the ground and the buzz? Quote
crafty Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 The EMGs have internal shielding and if you wire the system up correctly, it should be free of ground loops and relatively noise-free. Quote
