jasonn
This is my first time installing a bridge and I was wondering how do I install the posts for a tunamatic bridge? i.e. how do I screw them in to the holes in the body without using pliers and wrecking the thread. I know stewmac has a tool for doing it but is there an easier way?
killemall8
are you screwing them directly into the wood without studs?
jasonn
are you screwing them directly into the wood without studs? Thanks - you may have uncovered my problem. The tailpiece I bought came with studs which I assume I hammer in to the wood and then screw the tailpiece posts in to the studs. My bridge did not come with any studs so I assumed I had to screw it directly in to the wood. Do most tunamatic bridge posts come with studs? Any ideas where I could buy just the studs? killemall8
there are tons of places that sell just studs. some but not many tom bridges go directly into the wood, like on some gibsons. i dont like doing it like that. what brand of bridge is it? where are you located? j. pierce
"ABR" style TOM bridges have their posts screw directly into the wood. I prefer these, but it's a matter of taste. I simply put the stud in my drill chuck and screw it in slowly with a hand drill. A bit of heavy tape or a piece of leather wrapped around the post prevents the plating from being marred in the process.
