WAK Guitars
Does anybody know of some different ways of finishing walnut? Because I got a piece when I moved and am gonna use it for a top I think. Do people ever stain walnut or do bursts on it? I guess that might defeat the purpose of having a wood like walnut as a top but it might be cool. The only walnut finishes I've found are clear. Drak
Yes, you can do many things with Walnut. My second GOTM win ('Bones') was with a Claro Walnut topped guitar that looked like a ribcage, and it was not done in clear. I: A. Bleached it B. Added a rather light shade of reddish brown anilyne dye to it C. Shot my lacquer finish D. Bursted the edges black E. Shot more clear finish Came out beautiful, and not like most other Walnut guitars, I was very happy with it. So yes, you can do anything with Walnut that you want. Note: Don't ever let what other people do limit your own imagination. There are two major factors at work: 1. Common Sense (you need a lot of this one, it is your Personal Barometer and Compass) 2. Risk Aversion Assessment (how much risk are you willing to take) What other people may happen to do or don't do really shouldn't have much to do with it really. Your vision is in your eyes, those that see it are gifted with your vision and those that don't aren't, plain and simple. MK
