andyt Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Hi guys, quick question I couldn't find the answer to please. Just about to fret my first fingerboards with are 20", what should I bend the fretwire to - 18", 16", does it just need to be slightly tighter than the board? thanks Andy Quote
scab Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 the way i determine the radius of the frets when I'm doing a refret or installing them is.. when you're bending the fret wire take it and lay it into a fret slot (as if you were installing them). Both of the sides should touch, but the middle will be approx. 1/32" taller. This causes the fret to bite more when hammering them in. Good Luck! Scab Quote
Southpa Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Not much but enough to see more of a gap in the center of the fret when placed level across the board. I just bend the fretwire by hand, eyeball the radius and then tap it in. Quote
