ovation22
Has anybody tried the OLP MM1? Is it worth the cheap price? Does it come close to the sound and feel of the Axis? Thanks.

Speedy McFeely
they have the same body shape as the axis/EVH, but that's about it. the pick ups can be changed and you could add a floyd. the neck has a different profile also. the axis has a round fat neck, and the olp has a MIM strat type profile. they have nice photo flame tops. i had one for a while, i sanded off the finish on the neck, replaced the pick ups with dimarzios, and replaced the bridge with a floyd and locking tuners. it sounded ok and played ok too, not bad. for $200, what more can you ask for. ovation22
Hey McFeely, Would it be worth it just to save my pennies for an Axis? Does the Axis have the same type of off center profile as a Wolfgang? Thanks.
Speedy McFeely
the AXIS is the exact same as the EVH, they had to move the pickup switch to avoid a suit, but it's the same otherwise. it feels almost identical to the wolfgang neck wise and weight and balance. the tone of the wolfie is a little bit warmer, the axis is a tad brighter. i think the wolfgang is a better guitar, here's why. 1. dual action truss rod, with graphite reenforced neck. on the EB/MM Axis/EVH you cannot take all of the tension off of the neck unless you loosen the trus rod, it will damage the neck and the body, so you have to replae one string at a time. 2. the wolfie comes with the d-tuna already installed, on an axis you have to pay 40 bucks and then install it. 3. the wolfie has an arched top, just cooler IMO. 4. this is just a personal pref, i like the body shape of the wolf better, and it has an angled headstock, which i like better also. now if you wanted to get a wolfie special, it is practicly the same guitar as the axis, just not as fancy, but the special is identical when it comes to feel and neck and it has a flat top. Peavey has an import special with a veneer top, it looks and sounds cool, it's like $500. so i would get one of those before i got an olp, but the olp's are nice for $200. OLP vs. AXIS, save and get an AXIS. AXIS vs. WOLFGANG, get the peavey. these are just my two cents.
Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
DO NOT BUY ANY OLP. Frankly they are crap. I had a PU short out on me, and a guy brought one in to the dealer where the frets and inlays literally were falling out. They seem nice....for a few months. I just got back from a trip to Knoxville and went to the Guitar Center. I played the Peavey, OLP, and Axis side by side. The Axis is the clear winner hands down. The OLP looks, feels, and plays like a cheap guitar. The Axis is more meaty, and has a completely different feel in the neck pocket. It's a sweet guitar. And Peavey. Ppphfff. Like all Peavey's it's heavier than it looks and they did something to it. The body is slightly different and I don't like it as much. It's got a nice neck though. Speedy McFeely
did you play the import wolfgang or the american special or american standard? my axis is way heavier than my wolfgangs. you didn't like the body contour of the wolfie while playing it? i think its soo much more comfy, like a strat vs. a tele. i like a slimmer body though. i guess when it comes down to it, it's all about opinion. i'm sure that's why EB/MM still make the AXIS/EVH. you are right about the olp, it feels cheap, but if you are a beginner, or on a tight budget, i still think it's a good deal.
