I need to enlarge a hole I already drilled for a jack to be big enough to fit the 1/8" jack. Apparently I need about a 3/4" hole. The hole is something like 1/2" inch right now. Would this bit work for enlarging the hole?

By the way, anybody know where I can get a long enough drill bit for drilling the holes for the tremolo spring claw thing?

Only if the depth of the hole is equal to or less than the depth of one of the "steps". You could just use a 3/4" drill bit if 3/4" is what you need, no? Even without a drill press and clamps (which I'd recommend), the bit usually wants to more or less centre when drilling into a smaller hole. But, well, I'd use a press and clamps.

Which spring claw thing do you need a long drillbit for? Aren't they usually just located with a single screw? I haven't owned a trem-equipped guitar in some time, so I'm forgetting! :D

Most woodworking or 'home stores' have foot long 1/4" hex bit extensions. I use them all the time when making furniture, plus they come in handy for sorts of other uses.

I have a set of these. The bits can be changed to whatever size you want.

For hard to reach hole locations I use a 12" Dewalt extension and one of the above countersink bits. It will work perfectly for what you want to do, just stop before the countersink hits the hole.

Your best option is an interchangeable counterbore bit that has a 1/2" pilot and 3/4" drill. You can get them at Fastenal.com

This will give you the absolute best result. There are Fastenal branches everywhere. :D

I hate trying to just use a regular drill bit to enlarge a hole, it always ends with terrible chatter and chewed up holes.

I have, however, used steel de-burring bits to open wood holes. Takes longer, but far cleaner holes.

Just find one 3/4" outside diameter, and go slowly. Cleanest "cheap" method for opening up a hole.

But using a Unibit stepped drillbit would be the easiest tool to find at a hardware store. Gotta be careful with the wood chips building up, but it'll do the job for ya. Get one with a 3/4" outside diameter, and you should be fine punching all the way through.
