If I built a pickup winder (how hard is that?), would it be hard to turn these into good pickups? How much would it cost to build a pickup winder? Check the forum there are lots of threads about pickup building that will give you all the help you need. If you only want a few pickups it's much cheaper just to buy them. Magnet wire usually only comes in large quantities, so unless you want to build 50 pickups, I'd just get a cheap set of Kent Armstrongs or something.
