WezV
AS MANY AS YOU NEED TO TO GET A GOOD FINISH sorry about the shouting but its not a simple question to answer the number of coats will vary depending on your technique, lacquer, equipment and what sort of finish you are doing

WezV
You will get detailed answers if you ask good questions and give people more information! It might be worth using the search function as well although i appreciate that can be frustratingly useless at times I would consider not leaving you caps lock turned on, because sentences completely in capitals are generally interpreted as shouting or hostile
kpcrash
LOL! If you're dead set on using lacquer on a neck, 3-5 thin coats will usually seal it up well.
dugg
Some shredders don't like the grippy feel of laquer on the neck. There is a trend towards finishing necks with just a hand rubbed oil. Violin makers finish the neck first with an oil varnish, then scrape it off the back and apply french polish, which is shellac.
~davie
HOW MANY COATS OF LACQUER SHOULD I SPRAY ON A STRAT NECK THAT I JUST MADE poly? or nitro? if its nitro, u gotta let it cure like a few weeks IMO, the best thing to do is to do thin coats until every spot is covered then just fine sand+buff
