Drak Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 Uses for guitars as in tone quality, or just general uses? Quote
Lex Luthier Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 Rock, European, Bigleaf, Western, Silver, Red...there are five species that are important to the timber industry, I don't know if these are exactly them. In terms of musical instrument construction, I think basically Rock Maple is used for solid necks, most commonly displaying bird's-eye figuring, and sometimes curling, and Bigleaf or Western tends to display intence flaming and quilting, so I believe it's Bigleaf or Western that gets used for figured tops or backs, and laminated necks. The furniture manufacturer I work for uses Western Maple in it's maple furniture. Quote
tonebucket Posted December 7, 2003 Author Report Posted December 7, 2003 Lex, Thanks for the info. Anymore on red and bigleaf would be appreciated. Quote
