Sg Build Chamfered Edge ,, Anyone Done It How Did You?

I am building an Sg and i dont really wanna hand carve the chamfer around the body egde. If you built one how did you do it? there are no router bits made this shallow i can find.

draw a line around the edge and on the top then carve it with a rasp and scrapers. on my last one i actually scraped the bevels a little bit concave to make them look sharper

You can also trace it out then use a spokeshave.

i find that spokeshaves take a lot more skill for this job than a simple rasp, mainly because the grain obviously varies a lot with the shape so you need to be very aware of grain direction whilst carving

I would probably use rasps or one of these http://www.amazon.com/Makita-GV5000-5-Inch...r/dp/B00004YOKT you would have to be pretty careful and use a finer grit I'd probably stick to rasps just to be safe.

I use an angle grinder with a sanding disk , finish off with sandpaper by hand. Quick and easy.

I just did an sg and used a rasp for the edges.. its not really finished but yea.

still gotta use a scraper on it etc
