Timius
What are thoughts on a black limba neck with a ebony fretboard? Is black limba a decent neck choice? The guitar would have a black limba body as well and would have a clear finish. Thanks
Rick500
Absolutely. Black limba is a great choice for neck material. Here's one I'm working on.
erikbojerik
I made an 8-string with a black limba neck & body - I love the stuff and will use it again.
avdekan
a friend of mine built an all black limba guitar (apart from the fretboard for which I don't remember what he used). it sounded fantastic. the only problem was that because this wood is not very strong the headstock seemed a bit fragile, so he added a headplate on the back of it (again, I don't remember which wood it was). personally I love the looks and tone this wood gives. WARNING: thread Hijacking follows: Is white and black limba the same species?

Rick500
I haven't found it to be lacking in strength at all. It seems very, very similar to mahogany in most respects.
rjhalsey
Black Limba is an excellent choice. It is referred to as "The Mother of Tone Woods".
verhoevenc
My favorite reasonably priced wood out there. Hands down. I have a black limba body+neck build finishing soon if work'll ever give me time to finish it! Chris
WezV
WARNING: thread Hijacking follows: Is white and black limba the same species? http://www.hobbithouseinc.com/personal/woo...act%20sheet.htm note the huge list of names on that site!! generally most of what i see being sold in the states is Terminalia superba which is the tree that produces black or white limba/korina but there is also terminilia ivorensis which is commonly known as afara or idigbo in the uk but is also sold as white korina here. Strangely the idigbo is usually much cheaper than the limba but apparently more in danger the idigbo is a little more coarse grained and tends to be more olive green compared with the light tan to brown of the paler limba i have used both and not noticed any real tonal difference - its worth remembering that they probably didnt name the limba tree for its tonal properties so the word 'superba' doesnt mean its a better tonewood!!
