Six String Theory Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Which of the dyes from Stew-Mac do you think would get me this finish? https://stores.myregisteredsite.com/user141.../2009cal_lg.jpg Quote
westhemann Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 Looks like brown stain sanded back and coated with an amber tinted clear, then lightly bursted at the edges with brown of the same color as the stain...but I am just guessing. Mo0st people call that a "tobacco burst" Quote
DC Ross Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 I don't think that's a burst, that's a shadow from the carve on the bottom. I'd be willing to bet that's Tortoise Shell PRS' Tobacco Burst is much lighter Quote
westhemann Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 http://www.andersonguitars.com/cfpages/sho...p;bodyWoodID=33 I am sorry...I was thinking "fade",not "burst" but yeah, the tobacco fades I find are a bit light...I could swear tom anderson had a finish just like that years ago called a tobacco fade...but everything I find now is more amber than tobacco.. here is a tortoise shell..... verhoevenc Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 That looks like a DARK brown sanded back, then done with a brown/amber/yellow type mix. Root beer? Chris Quote
westhemann Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Whatever they call it,it really is quite stunning... Quote
Six String Theory Posted December 22, 2008 Author Report Posted December 22, 2008 It is pretty. I think Verhoevanc is right. Dark brown and some sort o rootbeerish tint. Thanks for the input. Quote
westhemann Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Isn't amber already a brown/yellow mix? Quote

I doubt that this is amber, it's got to much of an orangish tint to it. Quote
westhemann Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 I am talking about the original link,dude...the one you asked about.... And so is verhoevnc i think.. Quote
verhoevenc Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Yup, I'm talking about the PRS. Chris Quote
Six String Theory Posted December 23, 2008 Author Report Posted December 23, 2008 My bad, I was slightly confused about that. Yeah , it looks kind of like they mixed amber and brown. Does kind of remind me of rootbeer. Quote
