MiKro
After syrup..... IMHO Ambrosia is pretty damn cool I got plenty of that you need some? Dm hard to bookmatch though, since it's a stain in the wood and not grain. I would say that curly, quilted, birdseye is very very nice. Now if I could find that and it be spalted, ambrosia as well. damn that would be a find. MK Edited January 3, 2009 by MiKro
Southpa
I'm partial to smaller bookmatched burls.
westhemann
Gilmer has a bunch of maple burls in their unique woods section right now....got to have some big equipment to cut it though.
Southpa
I'm currently working on getting a supply of maple for future builds. Victoria, BC is right in the heart of Bigleaf Maple country. There are guys at work who are literally cutting it down and burning it in their woodstoves and fireplaces at home, totally ignorant that this wood is much sought after (by us). I'm trying to convince them that they are sitting on potential goldmines. If I find what I'm looking for I just might open up the market a little bit. kpcrash
I've said it before and I'll say it again I'm sitting on 4 acres of oak, maple and poplar (there's a few cedar/pine in there as well), well matured trees just waiting for someone with a big enough chainsaw and a mill
Quarter
I love all the maples, but if I had to chose one, quilted birdseye
Rick500
Zombie thread! I guess if I was forced to choose one, I'd pick curly spalted maple.
