jb291 Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Hey all and a belated Happy New Year. I am interested in doing this tiger eye finish on my current build and was wondering if anyone has obtained this look. Link http://www.driskillguitars.com/Byron/Galle...ages/tiger3.htm . Any suggestions on the staining proicedure would be greatly appreciated . Quote
westhemann Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 First off that photo is touched up a bit...the contrast is upped and the brightness is subdued...that gives it the glowing effect...cheap trickery, but not uncommon... dark brown stain, sanded back til it's almost gone, then an amber color coat might come close I suspect... ihocky2 Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Just to add a note, you have to use a figured wood top to get that finish. You may already know that and be including it in your plans, but I have seen people ask how to paint the figuring on, and it just can't be done accurately. Quote
