keef
Hi all. I'm new here. I just bought a new fender tele, and when I was getting it out of the car, it fell and a small chip was taken out of the paint on the body. Is there somewhere I could get matching paint? Does fender sell small amounts for touch ups?
kpcrash
Hi all. I'm new here. I just bought a new fender tele, and when I was getting it out of the car, it fell and a small chip was taken out of the paint on the body. Is there somewhere I could get matching paint? Does fender sell small amounts for touch ups? Did it chip all the way to the wood? Unfortunately, it's not a chip on a car. I've seen where people have tried to do this several times and it always ends up looking like cheap nail polish. You have to consider that manufacturers like Fender use very little "paint" and a lot of clear coat - in Fender's case, it used to be nitro-cellulose lacquer. Best bet - unless you're really, really experienced with fixing furniture finishes or something like that, might be to find a local luthier. Several are on this forum and will gladly help you out. ihocky2
I new Tele is going to have a polyester finish, which does not blend very well when fixing chips. Even the best finishers have a tough time getting the fixes to blend flawlessly. This is definitely a job for someone with experience. Or else just chalk it up to added mojo.
