Chuck_Chill-Out
Hi all. I am almost finished with a rebuild of a Teisco short-scale bass. I have converted it to a fretless bass using maple in the frets. I question is what type/brand is recommended by you (who know MUCH more about his than I do) for a short-scale, 4 string fretless bass? Thanks! DC Ross
Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats are great, they're what I use on my Conklin fretless. The string tension is very even and the tone is full and warm. The strings themselves feel smooth, not sticky like some flats.
Narcissism
If you would like to get some more tone out of your strings and you like the feel of roundwounds, there's strings out there called "pressurewound." They don't eleminate the problem where your strings cut into the fretboard, but they do cause a lot less wear than roundwounds. They have a unique sound, too. My favorite brand is rotosound
westhemann
Rotosound are the best strings I have ever played on for bass in my opinion...for one thing they last for a looong time...plus they sound great...but I am no bassist...most bassists I know swear by them though.
