Serius13 Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 What exactly was the old hamer sustianer bridge and what did it do? Anyone? Quote
psw Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 I have no idea what you are referring to as far as a sustainer bridge...sustainers are electromagnetic devices that typically replace the neck pickup with a driver and operate from the signal of the bridge pickup to provide controlled feedback, or infinite sustain and harmonics. Sustainiac and Fernandes are the main people with commercial units in the market place, hamer, kramer and many others have used these or versions of their own...floyd rose for instance has a patent and very early device used on kramers for a bit. The principle is fairly simple, but in practice it can be very tricky to get working well...even the commercial units take some doing to install requiring a total rewire. PG hosts the massive sustainer thread...this explores all kinds of sustainers but mainly DIY attempts and my own designs on those lines (see the telecaster link below for instance)...the idea there is to make a practical alternative, different approaches or alternatives to present sustainer technology. hope that helps...pete Quote
fookgub Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 Actually, I believe it was just a high mass bridge made back in the height of the "heavier = better sustain" days. Quote
