Halfaed Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 (edited) Will it cause big problems with the pickup's magnetic field and mess up the electronics? Or should I just use aluminum? Thanks for any help. This is what I'm planning. This On This Edited March 26, 2009 by Halfaed Quote
westhemann Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 You should use aluminum because It is lighter....You can get aluminum checkerplate pretty cheap. Quote

I was only going to use steel cause of the look. That way I would not have to paint it to look raw. Weight is not a really big thing,But if it is going to cause problems I don't want to use it. Thank you! Josh Quote
westhemann Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Unpainted Steel will rust....the rust will spread onto the entire guitar when you play it.All of your clothes will get rust on them. Steel sucks.Steel has no place on guitars unless it is nickel steel. Quote
Halfaed Posted March 26, 2009 Author Report Posted March 26, 2009 You have made up my mind. Thank you Sir! Quote
psw Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Aluminium is a better choice...as an easier alternative...check out auto parts shops...I've seen plastic chromed stuff that looks like checkerplate and a range of other materials like carbon fibre. Much lighter, self adhesive, cuts with a knife, reversible, probably cheaper, lighter, etc... Quote
westhemann Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Well...keep in mind I recently bought some sheets of aluminum checkerplate...and words can't describe how awesome it looks. I have checkerplate reserved for an explorer and a V with control cavity, pickgaurd, and truss rod cover all made of it... Quote
Keegan Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 (edited) Steel around the pickups also makes guitars sound a bit lame. Aluminum can also be anodized black if you prefer. Example: Edited March 28, 2009 by Keegan Quote
crxeffect Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 you can buff aluminum out to a chrome finish too. if it isn't already Quote
