avdekan
I'm about to to start the finish on my 3rd project - a chambered 4 string bass. It has a bolt on neck and I'm going tru-oil on this one. I know that when applying lacquer you should avoid getting it into the neck pocket because it will ruin the (supposedly perfect) match you have achieved between body and neck, and possibly damage vibration transfer between them. I don't see that happening with tru oil. so the question is; Is it safe to apply tru-oil in the neck pocket or should I leave it oil free? Cheers, B
Mitch
I don't think the fit will be effected as tru oil is very thin. But the glue may have problems sticking to it. I think its best keeping it out just to be safe.

Rick500
Bolt-on neck? Shouldn't hurt anything. Glue won't bond to it very well though, so keep it out of any future set neck pockets.

ihocky2
The sheilding tape uses a different type of adhesive, that will stick to a wider variety of product. But the tape is also under no stress, so there is no worry. It's not like the force trying to pull a neck from a body.

Keegan
It's pretty easy to avoid putting oil in the neck pocket. I didn't put any in any of the routes in my body. It can't hurt to get some in there though. The worst than can happen is you have to sand it a little.
