well out of curiosity i took the neck off my strat and put it on my explorer...since my explorer neck has no nut...and i strung up the guitar..it plays fine just one little thing bothers me...the low E is kinda close to the edge of the fretboard in the higher frets...and likewise the high E is a little far from the edge...and you can totally see it because the G string goes over the dot inlay...any suggestions? of course it could just be this neck because my other neck looks straight...but who knows....please help...thanks

You could probably correct the situation by placing a shim in the pocket on one side, just use a piece of business card folded over once and cut to about 1/4" wide.

It will change the angle of the neck the way it rest's in the pocket....

OK - is it 1/16 off for the entire length of the neck or just at the higher frets?

Did you drill the holes in your neck yet (not the pre-made one - the one you are building yourself)?

Can you line it up properly when the screws are not in? If so, you can drill new holes. The thing about that is that the holes will probably be too close to the previous holes. Maybe you could use ferrules instead of a plate? That way you could relocate all of the holes enough so that you won't have to worry about them being too close to the original holes.

If so, wouldn't he be better off enlarging the old holes in the neck to accept dowels and then redrilling them at the right place? That's what I did to install an AANJ neck on a non-AANJ body (in addition to reshaping the heel a bit). I'm no expert but from what I've learned on this forum, it seems like a logical solution.

OK. I don't see how he would be better off that way but it certainly is another option.

Right, that's why I was asking if the holes have already been drilled in the new neck. If they are, and it is off, then obviously new holes are needed. It's just a matter of what he wants to do - put dowels in the neck and pocket or just the pocket (and use ferrules).

i am using ferrules and the strings are only off in the upper frets...i think i just have to adjust the back two screws...hopefully this wont set me back too far as i almost to finishing
