ryeisnotcool2
Ok so im making a stingray, i just finished glueing up the two piece ash body tonight, i am gonna use curly maple for a laminate neck, but i dont remember what the thickness of the neck is at the heel without the fret board, does anybody have a stingray that they could measure it for me? it would save me a trip to the music store. also is there a tutorial for installing a skunk stripe? the customer wants one, and i'd like to try it but id like to read something first, lol thanks for any help! Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
I have a OLP MM5 copy of a sting ray 5. I can give you the dimensions if they will help. Skunk stripe: Lay the neck down on its face. clamp. It is best to do PRIOR to trussrod and fretboard. You can go all the way thru to the trussrod route. best if you do, and even better if before you route for the trussrod. Lay your straight edges out so your router will stay in the center of the neck. Use a 1/4" flute bit. route from the heel to the 7th fret (or whereevr else you want it to be). Blow it out to get rid of the debris. then glue your 1/4" koa, walnut, ebony, whatever in. make sure to put a 1/4" radius on one end. sand and finish. If the neck is already profiled, you will need to put youe straightedges above the neck. 2x4's work well. I use billet 90 degree angled aluminum billets for my straightedges.
