Proper Order For Finishing

Recommended Posts

What's the best order for finishing? In this case an ash body that will be stained with and have a single burst.

Does this look right?

grain sealer

sand

pre stain treatment

black stain

sand

black stain

sand

(these were to have the grain stand out)

green stain

sand

green stain

airbrush a black stain burst (or should I use an acrylic paint?)

tung oil

tung oil

sand with steel wool

tung oil

sand with steel wool

tung oil

polish

should I use a sealer at some point?

Tung oil will not work with paint. It needs to absorb into the wood to provide any type of protection or adhesion. On top of paint all it will do it dry up and rub off.

What is "pre stain treatment"?

Again tung oil will not work on top of grain sealer or grain filler. It needs to be applied to bare wood or else it just rubs or flakes off once dry.

No it does not look right.

As was said why do you need a pre stain treatment, we are not working with blotchy wood like pine. You said it was ash right

To even give you a hint to figure out what to do , rather than give us some nonsensical list of every step. You could show us or describe to us what you are attempting to do and someone can describe to you how to do it.
