Grounding Pickup Cavity

So I bought copper paint to paint the pickup cavities. DO i have to do anything else like run wire from the pickup cavity to the bridge ground/or the volume knob ground?

Yeah, you need to connect the shielding with signal ground, ie back of a pot or the ground tab on the output jack

it may seem a little redundant but i do star grounding on all of my electrics where the space and electronics allow it. this has made all the difference in noise for me.
