hooglebug
made templates today for two new projects - the first outings for two new models - the tele-like 'holly' and a lapsteel based on my 'deco' designs the holly will most likely be an esquire version. im thinking baby blue with white binding. but it might change. body's alder, neck maple/rosewood (shock horror!!!) lapsteel has rippled sycamore core with limba/walnut sides and walnut board (will have maple 'frets' and markers)

darkshadow54321
The lapsteel looks like it's going to be a really cool project. Get to work! We want results!
Muzz
Fantastic the tele based guitar especially looks so good, love the headstock.
Xaromir
I also like the headstock. But will it fit a tele? Teles always got a certain classic workhorse-appeal, the headstock almost seems to be slightly to modern and elegant. Just a thought though, but i guess that you have planed it out enough to make it fit and if not you can always change it in the process anyway. Looking forward to seeing more of that. Cam
That lapsteel is going to look really cool with the curvy middle piece!

guitarkid4143
I'm diggin' that Tele shape! +10000000000000!
Xaromir
ah but its not a slab tele-style. its gonna be a bit curvy and contoured so it SHOULD fit. i hope. well ok. "Multi Winner GOTM" I guess you have a fair bit of experience with that. Can't wait to see that thing finished! Very interesting wood-choice for the lappy btw. The tail-piece is going to be a interesting detail, i bet that would look wicked in gold-plated on that dark walnut. <3 /me wants more details Yeah, i just wait like all the others, but that doesn't mean i can't be exited about it. hooglebug
alder blank is gluing up now. bit of work on the lapsteel. the wings need thicknessing (a LOT!!!) but this is what it will look like. with a board. and a walnut tailpiece. obviously. Xaromir
That will look unusually elegant for a lappy, i like it. I'm still not sure if i wouldn't like a gold tailpiece better if it would be for me, but it's starting to come together now, and it will look wicked with a walnut tailpiece. hooglebug
nothing too exciting. didnt have much time today so just got holly body cut out
hooglebug
lapsteel sides have been thinned down to size. but it doesnt look any different to the last pic so theres not much point in another holly has binding (not trimmed yet), pickguard cut, neck pocket, neck (no pic yet) and control cavity cut. hooglebug
rough headstock detail
Fraser
The jointing of the lapsteel neck to wings looks super neat, I have to ask how did you do it full depth so neatly? I would have rough cut it then made matching templates to rout against with a template following bit. But then, I have trouble jointing two supposedly straight pieces together!! both projects look great. F.
hooglebug
hehe its a cheat im afraid. the front of the core is all curvy, but theres a 7mm lip and the wings join on to a nice straight but underneath.
hooglebug
lapsteel mockup. doesnt have the 'frets' in yet and here you go. thats how i got such a good join hehe
Fraser
ahh, so the core is 7mm deeper than the wings. nice. Thanks.

hooglebug
not too much difference but it has a fretboard now woo not too much difference here either but its now got 'frets' and a bit of shaping to the curvy bits
