Hey there, I'm new to the forum and looking for some advice, tips, etc. into building a carbon fiber guitar. I plan on buying a Kramer Baretta Infinity body, which I will then take a fiberglass half-body mold off of (a la http://www.vaglinks.com/Docs/Misc/CarbonFiberHowTo2.pdf (I know the url is a little weird, but it maps out the process how I'm going to do it)). So once I take the mold, I'll lay up the carbon fiber on the inside of each half, using multiple (about 4-5) layers with one mixed color layer of gold texalium for appearance, then I will cut off the "wings" of the wood body (basically everything except the routs for the bridge, neck, and pickups), and glue that section into the body where it belongs so all the parts have something to screw into. I'll reinforce the carbon section with fiberglass on the inside where the wood section isn't, then glue the two half sections together. From there, I'll install pots, switches, jack, etc. into the rear cavity cover just like on a regular guitar, and... bam, a carbon fiber guitar... Any suggestions, comments, thoughts?? Thanks!

why even bother with the wood make the whole thing out of fiber then use a graphite neck http://www.mosesgraphite.com/

Because I want to have a Floyd in there (which would require a STRONG chamber to withstand all the pull from the strings and springs), and plus there's no way I can laminate the carbon fiber (each sheet has a thickness of .018") thick enough to make a solid or even decently thick hollow body to stand alone without paying a fortune. And plus I don't want to invest in a $330 neck for a guitar that might have no tone or sustain whatsoever. I'm sorta trying to make a cost-effective project here, and, for now, I'm just focusing on the body. Although this isn't something that I haven't looked into, and is still a possibility, but it's just not the direction I'm going towards...
