Making Channel For Pickup Selector

i am building a prototype of my new body design which has a pickup selector on the upper horn, as with the les paul. how to i build or route the channel that goes between the pickup selector and the electronics? do i have to have a laminate top and route the channel into the body and cover it with the laminate, or is there a better way to do it?

you can put channels in before a top goes on, or you can drill from the neck pickup cavity and run the wires through that way
