funkymann1
Can anyone tell me why the string spacing is different on import bridges Vs American? For example I have built 2 Mighty Mite parts guitars & found that if you use American style Bridges the E strings are almost hanging off the sides of the fretboards!!! If the specs on the necks are supposed to be the same as fender why does this happen? Thanks, -Mark
Ken Bennett
Bridges come in a variety of string spacings. It's not just an import vs American thing. The spacing at the bridge, nut, and pickup pole pieces all work together with the profile of the fingerboard. I've only made one guitar from prefab parts. One guy gave me a neck that he was never going to complete, and another guy gave me a body. Rather than try to figure out what bridge spacing I needed, I bought the Schaller model with roller saddles so I could adjust it to fit. Woodenspoke
The bridge spacing is directly related to the width of the end of the neck. if the neck is narrow at this point (22nd or 24th fret) the bridge must also be narrower. Try an adjustable bridge.. Buy some calipers and check it
