Can You Make 250kpot Become 500k Pot?

I don't think it's possible to make a 250k pot into a 500k pot, I thought I read that. I know you can take a 500k and go down to 250k with resistors. I kept finding this post on a forum where this guy says yes you can. Can someone confirm this? Thanks ahead of time.

can't be done easily.

The only way is scratching off some of the carbon track to increase resistance....very tricky to do accurately.

it would be much easier just to put a 500k pot

as borge said it could be done but the only reason i could ever see doing surgery on a pot is if its in a vintage guitar and your wanting to keep it as original as possible.

the putting a 500k resistor in paralel with a 500k pot does make it a 250k pot but it really throws off the taper.

Yes the opening up of the pot, I read about that. Now that I think of it I'm not that ambitious. lol Thanks for the help.
