Suek
I just re-wired an old Squier Strat myself and used 22 gauge as what I read or told should be. Someone told me I should have gone with an 16 or 18 gauge and it will sound better. What are your thoughts on this. I was told by a few people that was bull. Thanks for reading. westhemann
Eh...I have used both...I have used solid and braided...pretty much anything handy on my old beaters, and really as long as the solder joints are good it doesn't matter. Tim37
the pickups dont make enough power to need any thing bigger than 22awg infact you could use much smaller but its harder to work with. and 18awg would just be massive over kill like using a 10lbs sledge hammer to crack a pecan. but i will say use stranded or braded wire its much less likely to break over time. SwedishLuthier
The pickups themself consists of a couple of thousand foot of 42AWG or thinner non braided wire. How much will a few inches of "only" 22 gauge wire affekt things?
RestorationAD
Voodoo! I call voodoo... man guitarists will believe anything. I use 22awg but I have used 18awg in a few beaters. Couldn't tell the difference when I rewired them. pickups dont make enough power to need any thing bigger than 22awg +1 In the perfect wire resistance, capacitance, and inductance = 0 ... in short runs as is in a guitar these 3 values are pretty close to that. A good guitar cable is more important.

I used 22 from a computer power supply that just died. I had cut the wire before I threw it out because something told me I was going to use it. Now if I can find use for 20 others things I've saved "Just in case". lol the pickups dont make enough power to need any thing bigger than 22awg infact you could use much smaller but its harder to work with. and 18awg would just be massive over kill like using a 10lbs sledge hammer to crack a pecan. but i will say use stranded or braded wire its much less likely to break over time. I mean the gauge thing. lol
