JPL
Head on over to the Les Paul Forum. They should be able to help you. Be sure to have lots of pictures.
GuitarMaestro
I suppose a 59 would be really quite expensive.....Sell it and buy a good guitar instead....I hate Les Pauls more then any other guitar: It is far too heavy to be comfortable if you play standing, it has no forarm contour but a sharp and uncomfortable edge instead and for all that pain it doesnt even reward you with a different sound compared to similar designs which dont have these design flaws. Addititionally a new Les Paul costs MUCH more than it is worth. Check a bunch of Les Pauls in a store and you'll find that the consistency in quality you might expect from such an expensive guitar is simply not there. I bet that you'll find one of four sounding as good as it is expensive.... Disclaimer: Dont take my post too serious I am just an uncurable Les Paul hater.... jbkim
I think Les Paul's are one of the most beautiful guitars ever designed... but I agree with you, I find them virtually unplayable, comfort wise, etc.
Digideus
Must be one of those things, I find them extremely comfortable to play over a strat shaped guitar. I think the shoulder of the strat is what I find awkward. I like to play low slung guitars. The Les Paul sits rather nicely down by my groin whereas Strats tend to feel a bit out of place there. Adam Brown
I find the 59' rounded necks to be pretty hard to get used to... Hey by the way, call me insane, but on my Les Paul project I just made a contoured heel... and I'm thinking real hard about tone chambers a la Warmoth
Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
Last I knew, real 59 Les Pauls were going for $175,000 to $200,000 USD.
GuitarMaestro
>Last I knew, real 59 Les Pauls were going for $175,000 to $200,000 USD. Then I would sell it immediately.... You could buy a much better guitar for $2000 and keep the rest for other things.

jbkim
Did you head over to the Les Paul forum and post pictures like drewblanc suggested above? They have pictures of the real deal there so you can compare. They also have articles on the reissues and how you can tell.
wylde1919
smart idea by keeping. thats called "money in the bank!" Investment grade guitars are an excellent security policy!
GuitarMaestro
i'll keep it for life Great attitude. I understand what you mean. I would NEVER sell my first real Fender made in USA Strat with a 70's hand wound Bill Lawrence singelcoil-format humbucker at the bridge. I have so many guitars, but none comes close to this Strat for me.
Guest AlexVDL
I doubt it's a real 59 LP.... could be a reissue though, or a 50's LP goldtop converted to a 59 flame/plain top by a previous owner. If it's a real one than you're rich! But like I said I doubt it... Show us some pics, I can tell you if it's definately not real
tsl602000
yes, if you claim to have a '59, show us some pics. Maybe a pic in combination with your unc's diablo would be cool!
