drivethru
i just routed my truss rod channel into the neck and am about a 1/16 off center. Do I scrape it and make a new neck or will I be ok?
dpm99
Welcome to the forum. I'm going to leave this to some of the more experienced builders here, but personally, I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep over it. To start with, is it off center from your final neck contour or just from the neck blank?
Mender
If it is 1/16" off center from the neck blank, just change where you will cut so it becomes the centre. If it is off centre to the finished contour, it would work fine, but the adjuster will be off centre. If the adjuster is at the heel end, it doesn't matter as it wouldn't really be in view, but at the nut end, it would be noticeable. Then you would have to fit a truss rod cover to disguise it. Other than that, I don't see any problems.
drivethru
thanks very much. that's a big relief. yeah it's off center of the final contour, hence the concern. cosmetically it's not a big concern, i'm just worry it will affect how the neck performs. this is my first build so things still seem a bit more complicated then they really are. thanks again. dpm99
How far along are you? If you're in the early stages, there are a couple of things you could do. If you have the tools for it, you could rip the board in a few spots and turn it into a laminate neck. You could also do an asymmetrical neck carve, sort of like this one that Warmoth does: Or you could just go with it as is. What kind of wood are you using anyway? Pics would help. demonx
You could route it where it's meant to be and then glue a strip of wood down the side to pack the truss rod. If it's only the 1/16 you say then it's an easy fix but not one you'd want to make a habit of.
