Elton Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 Messed up route?? the trem post holes are like....supposed to be lowered down to the paint part right? the floyd kinda sits at an angle when i put it on....is this ok? Quote
daveq Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 It's hard to see but it looks like you are part of the way there. You were going for a recessed mount, right? If so, you will need to extend the rout about 1/32 to 1/16 beyond the posts (toward the neck). That way, the hole bridge can lower down into the guitar. The posts are adjustable so don't worry if you think you are going too far down. Just don't get carried away. I think my lates guitar has the rout about 1/8" but I'd need to check that to be sure. Before you do anything, just trace the shape of the bridge and make sure you are going to be wide enough,... There are routing guides posted here on projectguitar. Let me know if you need help or can't find them. Quote
daveq Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 Here's the link: Routing Guide I think you are missing the "B" dimension. Quote
YDoesGodMockMeSo Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 you kinda need to do like http://home.rgv.rr.com/kingv1474/100_FUJI/.../3/DSCF0001.JPG see how the rout area goes beyond the trempost are (though i haven't done that yet) Quote
daveq Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 Oh yeah, and the bottom of the guitar - has that been routed yet? I see the hole for the block but how about the spring cavity, ... ? Quote
Elton Posted January 13, 2004 Author Report Posted January 13, 2004 noooo i didnt route this it CAME like this when i bought it. but it looks like im gonna haev to do something about it huh? Quote
daveq Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 There's also info on stewmac's site. I'll see if I can find the link for you. You'll need the top routed just beyond the post holes and the bottom routed about 3/4" deep for the spring cavity. Give me a bit and I'll try to find the info on stewmac for you. Quote
daveq Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 Here's some info for you. I don't know how much is left to do on that but maybe the templates would help? Here's the info that comes with them: Floyd Routing Quote
Elton Posted January 13, 2004 Author Report Posted January 13, 2004 what itches my noodle is why would charvel route it like that??? Quote
westhemann Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 so that you can pull back on it without recessing so much is my guess Quote
Elton Posted January 13, 2004 Author Report Posted January 13, 2004 grrr so maybe i should leave it like that? would it cause any problems? cept that it will damage the finish on that part... Quote
westhemann Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 i think you can recess it without any problems...like dave said...up to you Quote
Guest AlexVDL Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 Just attach your neck before you're planning on recessing the whole trem. I think a charvel with a floyd route like that would have a big neck angle or a shallower neck pocket. Just like the old ibanez roadstar models, they also had the trem on top of the body, not recessed. But because of that the neck has an angle plus it is set less deep into the body. So first attacht your neck, then measure out if your bridge has to be lowered or not. If so then you can think of recessing it. I hope this helps Quote
