Measurements For Installing Bridge On A 24fret Guitar.

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post ever and I'm glad to have found this forum. I'm about to install a standard bridge on a 24 fret guitar project I was working on and I just wanted to know the proper measurements so that I could start drilling screw holes on the body and so that the guitar would be in the right tune when strung. I attached these pictures of the guitar and the bridge I'm going to install. I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me with what to do next, specifically with the measurements from the nut to the bridge. Just so you know, the bridge on this guitar used to be a standard strat bridge with the trem arm but I bought a standard bridge since I don't want the trem arm to be installed. I'm a left handed guitar player and I don't know if being a lefty will have different measurements on installing a bridge.

Thank you so much and greetings from the Philippines!

Measure from the front edge of the nut to the center of the 12th fret and double that. That is your scale length. Adjust the saddle of your high E string 2/3rds to 3/4ths of the way forward and locate your bridge with that saddle at your scale length. For example a strat has a 25.5" scale and so that saddle would be set 25.5" from the nut.

Based on your questions, you should probably get someone with plenty of this kind of experience to help you out or at least check what you are getting ready to do before you drill any holes. You've got a lot more questions you need to learn the answers to before you get started.
