FrickerT
Hello All, Just a quick question... I have stripped back the guitar I am working on to the wood via a combination of paint stripper and sanding. Having cleaned the wood up, I now want to seal it in order to remove the grain and provide a good surface to start spraying on. Has anyone used PVA to do this? I heard it can be used and then sanded so smooth out. I am wondering whether it requires diluting at all?? Any help gratefully received as always Cheers Tom
demonx
I've tried using expensive timber sealers and other products. They still sink into the grain. I've tried high solids primers and other high fill primers. They still sink. I've used grain fillers and I've tried polyester fillers. They all sink eventually. Polyester seems the best but some people are against using it on guitars as they say it saps the tone! If you're using solid paint, my advice is just use a grain filler or a polyester filler. If it's a clear finish you're doing, then spray clear, sand it off, repeat and repeat till it's smooth OR if there's massive knots or other grain in the timber you could fill it with a clear epoxy, sand and clear In your case as the guitars previously been painted, all you should have to do is sand smooth and prime
