Striped Frankie... Probably

Recommended Posts

Hi, long time no build, had a hankering for one of the new evh cheap striped series recently, but thought why not build one, with a few twists mainly because a had a manky schaller floyd sitting around.

Reverse headstock, of course

oh yeh, I forgot it's a 24 fret so I thought I would experiment, glued in the neck then roughed out some heal shaping

and couldn't resist a quick string up

So the plan is to stripe the body & maybe relic it before clearing it

I was playing around with the neck and made it a soft V to C as I'd never played one, but not sure I like it, so might shave it off

Nice heal, looks comfy. Any idea of its weight? I have a lot of sapelle and thought that without weigh relief it would be too heavy.

My luggage scales says 8.3 lbs as it is.

I made almost the exact same thing last year, but with mahogany for the body and a multilam neck. The one pickup I found to be nice, but I miss not having a neck pup even though I rarely use it

Cheers Wes, just went back and found your thread, cool stuff

Funny how I never noticed this build of yours, Andy! Great work as always and I hope people see and respect that, rather than complaining that it is not a perfect replica because of this or that detail.

What's your opinion on the Mo Joe?

Cheers, Mo Joe sounds good in this, better that the one I've got in a real JS I think. Its a full sounding pickup, but still pretty balanced & pick harmonics just scream out.

I've debated for ages about what would be a good choice as the only humbucker in a Frankie. Thought a PAF, an SD Custom Custom or the '78 Custom if the price isn't too stupid on top of the marketing.
