PerryL
I've got a basswood body I want to stain Black to show the grain, What do you guys use as a wash coat to keep the basswood from soaking up stain unevenly?
ScottR
I don't think I've ever seen basswood stained. Has your piece got a noticeable grain in it? It is usually noted for its uniformity of grain to the point of looking like there isn't any. I got nothing. Highly cut shellac is a common washcoat, but I have no idea what would happen on basswood. That stuff is usually begging for paint. I'll wait here with you and see anyone has some useful advice..... SR
PerryL
Actually, I'd just like to give it a see-thru Black lacquer however, I haven't been able to find it anywhere in a spray can. It doesn't have any special grain or nuthin, I just wanted the ease of use that a spray can affords! I do one-offs all very different so didn't want to spend much on it.
