Guest AlexVDL
how much frets? i.e. if you have 24 frets the distance of the fretboard could be from nut to 25th fret. use the online version enter "26,5" then "inches" then the number of frets i.e. "24" now it says that the 25th fret is at a distance of 20.247 inches from the nut, so that's your fretboard length... or if you want some wood behind the nut just add it up to the total. In case of a locking nut I would add the width of the locking nut to the total, so you can leave a bit of wood under the nut (no need for shims). I hope this helps

lovekraft
<math lesson> Or you could simply multiply your scale length by .75 (for a 24 fret neck) and add about 1/4" for wood after the 24th fret. We know the 12th fret is the middle of the scale (1/2 the scale length), and that another octave would be half of that distance (1/4 scale length), so we find the sum of 1/2 +1/4, and add a small amount of wood so the fret will stay seated. I get 20-1/8", but 20-1/4 (or 20.247) isn't that far away. Personally, I'd prefer a shorter cantilever, but either one works. </math lesson>
