MKGBass
Does anyone know where to find a decent priced hand pickup winder (not the electric one on stewmac for $330). Either that or does anybody know a good method to building your own. Plans, links, all are accepted, thanks
jbkim
I've heard of one built from an old record player. It didn't have a winding counter mechanism but it'd be kinda slow... at 33 1/3 rpm it's 2000 revolutions per hour. That's the cheapest one I can think of. There are other's, plans, etc. but I don't remember off hand.
lovekraft
Jason Lollar, pickup winder extraordinaire, has a book that explains building and using a winder. Here's a review on Guitarsite.com.

Hotrock
My girlfriend bought me a toy plane for christmas thats powered by an elastic band. It came with a battery powered winder that has a counter on it. I'm going to use this with the Mechano that my brother bought me. I'm still waiting for Jason Lollars book to come through the post, so I might be able to answer properly soon. Personally, I would buy the book as the winding is only the start of the troubles
