In the two books I have on guitar building, they both use 3/16 steel rod but I see so many other choices out there, what is the best and easiest to use? krazyderek Posted January 22, 2004 Report Share Posted January 22, 2004 in terms of safest, double (dual expanding) truss rods are the best way to go, allows greater control over your neck. there's actually a really good write up/explination of this on the warmouth page, but be sure to shop around for the best price... I ordered the regular truss rods from Stew Mac the 3/16 steel dowl, are they ok to use? And can you just route a straight channel for the double truss rods, or do you need to create a curved channel like you do for the 3/16 steel? daveq Posted January 22, 2004 Report Share Posted January 22, 2004 Straight channel for dual action rods. If you get the stewmac hotrod, you'll need the router bit they sell also. Other places sell 1/4" wide rods I think so you can use a standard bit. Actually - you don't need the bit but it will make life easier instead of having to make multiple passes along the width.
