Flame maple, purpleheart, flame maple. Sounds so bright it hurts. Its a pretty thick neck, so I can fix it if thats the problem, but what would you think? I mean acoutically, its loud and banjo esque. Sounds great plugged in, but thats after I put the cheapest muddiest sounding pickup I had in there. Not muddy in this guitar.

lol neat, i've always found purple heart to have alot of "thunk" and low end, so the brightness must be coming from the Cherry body, i think that's supposed to be kinda bright sounding if i remember correctly, ramparts says it's similar to basswood...

I built a neck out of bass/ph/bass wood, w/ ph FB :D it's light as a feather

well you're the man with the experience using the wood :D so i do trust you

so basswood is creamy to you? i've always gotten a thin dead vibe from it.. like it would be good for high gain pickups, is my thinking for basswood...

sorry, i'm not very wordy goody today...

Getting back on subject..... did you try the neck in another body?? that might help you narrow down/ confirm where the brightness is coming from
