AlonsoOrtiz Posted January 2, 2018 Report Posted January 2, 2018 I’m going to be testing out finishes for a semi hollow guitar I am building one of those being this charcoal burst finish. How would one go about achieving this color finish. My top is quilted maple same as the guitar in the picture. Thank you Quote
ScottR Posted January 3, 2018 Report Posted January 3, 2018 I would finish sand the wood, dye it with a fairly heavy black, sand that back to the finish sanded stage and then dye it again with a more dilute black. Next shoot a few layers of lacquer and level them and mix up a tint with the black dye and spray the burst. Then continue the spraying schedule for a nice lacquer clear coat on top. SR Quote
