rudidp Posted July 16, 2019 Report Posted July 16, 2019 Hi all I am a hobby-luthier building my first accoustic guitar (I've build electric guitar and Ukelele before) The soundboard/sides is spruce and I've got bubinga for the fretboard want to keep it light coloured so what is my best option for the back? Worried Spruce will be too soft or the back, same with Obeche (which would be a strange choice but I have some) or should I abandon keeping the colour and go for mahogany/walnut? Any help appreciated R Quote
Bizman62 Posted July 17, 2019 Report Posted July 17, 2019 You're right in that soft wood isn't the perfect choice in the back of an acoustic. There's plenty of light coloured hardwoods to choose from. Maple is maybe one of the most common ones in acoustic instruments and it can be very reasonably priced as well, depending on the figuration. Quote
