GuitarMaestro
I have a very nicely figured curly softmaple neck blank here, that I did not use for a neck, because several people recommended not to use soft maple at all for necks. I decided to insert a center laminate of bubinga in order to make it stable enough. Some guy told me that soft maple will make a very mellow and dark sounding neck. As I would use it for a 7-string this would certainly NOT be desired....What's your opinion on this one? Thanks in advance, Marcel Knapp! Snork
IMHO you'd be safer putting 2 stripes through the curly maple. #1 this would help out the stablity of the neck. #2 it would brighten up the sound a bit as it is a harder wood. Scott Rosenberger
Maple is still a bright sounding wood regardless if it's hard or soft. I built this entire body out of Figured soft maple.

GuitarMaestro
@Scott: Thanks for the info....Do I get it right that you only built the body from scratch and bought the other parts?
Scott Rosenberger
Yep. I had a 7620 and built the replacement body for it. I sold the Original Body to SyxxString

GuitarMaestro
I really dislike the sound of basswood guitars Why do you buy a basswood guitar then.... Concerning the soft maple: Is anyone else here who used it perhaps even for a neck? I just want to hear about some expiriences with that wood.... Thanks, MK! Scott Rosenberger
Why do you buy a basswood guitar then.... Because I got it for $300 US shipped in a UV1000 Case. The hardware is worth more than that
GuitarMaestro
that sure is a nice deal....
guitar_ed
You can use softer flamed maple in a neck, but it is fairly unstable. I would suggest using some carbon fiber rods, like StewMac sells, plus a truss rod. Guitar Ed Advice worth what you paid for it. Nothing.
