Quick Remove Neck (Travel Guitar)

Hello, first time posting here. I am in the process of building a travel guitar, something small that I can fit in an overhead bin on a plane or easily carry with me to a bonfire to play with friends. I’m using a neck I salvaged from a cheap starter guitar and the body is a custom design from some mahogany I had.

My question stems from the fact that I would like the neck to be easily removable, something that could be done as quickly as possible. My original thought was to have threaded inserts in the neck and an Allen head bolt/screw so I could assemble the guitar when I got where I was going. But I’d like something even faster than that.

My question is, is there some sort of quick connect fitting I can use that is both easy to remove, but also sturdy enough and doesn’t have any play so that it could be used to fasten the neck?

Not sure if this is just a pipe dream short of custom engineering and machining some sort of fitting, or if something already exists that I can make work.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

If you search for travel guitars you'll soon find out there's several ways to reduce the footprint. Like this review of current models: https://www.guitarlobby.com/best-travel-guitars/ . It shows many variations starting from simply smaller versions to partially cut bodies to headless guitars with the bridge at the very end of the body to hinged wonders. There's many other variations of the theme, Google is your friend.

I recall having seen one collapsible guitar where you didn't even have to loosen the strings for packing and it would stay in tune, more or less!

Well I’ve done a lot of that too. I’m just trying to get it as small as possible for transport. Down the line I’d like to make a custom case for it with foam inserts to hold the body and neck, maybe even build a Pignose style amp into the case too.

But for now I need to figure out a fast and easy, but secure, way to attach the neck. If I could do that, I could cut the overall size in half for travel.

What about if instead of making the neck removeable you make it such that it can swivel around on the tongue that it attaches to on the body?

You'd need to redesign your body a little to make room for the neck to fold over onto the bass-side shoulder, but it would save you having to come up with a method of screwing/unscrewing the neck to the body. All you'd need is some kind of pin to insert through the body into the rear of the neck heel so that it wouldn't swing left or right once it was in the 'playing' position.

I've been very happy with the Blackstar Fly and for what I've heard the Nux of similar size is even more versatile as it can use tons of effects via a smartphone app. There's more of that ilk, some sound like plastic buzzers while others can be really pleasing.
